The activities of Anatoly Chubais “undermined the financial capabilities” of Russia, which is why the country lacked money for the needs of the military operation. This was stated to RTVI by deputy Andrei Kartapolov, who, together with his colleague Andrei Lugovoi, asked the Investigative Committee to carry out a check prior to the investigation into Chubais.

“We believe that the activities of Mr. Chubais seriously undermined, among other things, the financial capabilities of our country, and this money, which because of his fault the country did not receive, would be very necessary today in the zone of a special military operation,” Kartapolov noted.
Lugovoi, in conversation with RTVI, called Chubais a “traitor who shamefully fled from Russia” and noted that “in any case, there are claims” against him, at least of a “moral nature.”
When asked why deputies asked to rein in Chubais only now, Lugovoi responded that parliamentarians were addressing “a wide range of issues,” including those that “have been raised for a long time, but have never been answered.” The deputy also admitted that criminal proceedings could have been opened against Chubais without publicly disclosing it.
Kartapolov said that, together with Lugovoy, he contacted the Investigative Committee and the Prosecutor General’s Office about Chubais on January 17. The deputies asked to check Chubais’s official activities as head of the board of directors of Rusnano (from 2008 to 2020) and special representative of the president for relations with international organizations to achieve sustainable development goals “for signs of relevant crimes” .
From 1998 to 2008, Chubais was head of RAO UES of Russia, where he was responsible for reforming the country’s electricity system in order to transfer it to a “market basis” to ensure economic development and energy security.
From 2008 to 2020, Chubais worked at Rusnano and from December 2020 to March 2022 he served as special representative of the president. In March 2022, Chubais resigned of his own free will and left for Israel.
