Apple plans to develop an MFi certification for external USB-C, which will depend on the charging of the iPhone 15, an anonymous Weibo user reported.
If so, then Apple could create a microchip to control and share information between applications. The same chip is used in all certified Lightning cables. When connected to an iPhone, it “tells” the smartphone that this is a genuine accessory, and not a Chinese copy.
If the cable is not suitable for use with the chip, after a while it may stop working with the iPhone, and a warning will appear on the device’s display. This accessory is not magic.
So far, there are no details on how Apple will control the operation of USB-C. Perhaps the company will limit only part of the features for impact without MFi, such as charging and data transfer speeds.
