The company’s CEO, Elon Musk, said on Twitter that SpaceX shut down one engine by itself before testing, while the other engine “stopped by itself.”
But at the same time, Musk said, “there’s still enough engines to reach orbit!” he writes.
Starship is designed to transport cargo and people beyond Earth, including to Mars. While SpaceX hopes to launch Starship’s first orbital launch in the summer of 2021, delays in progress and regulatory approval have pushed that timeline back.
To launch the largest rocket requires a license from the US Federal Aviation Administration.
