American actor Kellin Pelrin took advantage of a previously unknown flaw in the system to defeat the machine. This flaw was discovered by another computer. But the face-to-face match, in which the man won 14 of the 15 matches, was conducted without direct computer support.
According to Pelrin, winning strategy is “not exactly trivial, but not terribly difficult” to be learned by a human and can be used by an intermediate player to beat machines. You have to slowly “loop” a large stone to surround one of the groups of enemies while distracting the AI with movements in other corners of the board. The machine did not notice the vulnerability even when the environment was almost complete.
