Linux kernel creator Linus Torvalds has announced the stable release of Linux 6.2.
The main change in patch 6.2 was full support for the M1 Pro, M1 Max and M1 Ultra processors, as well as Intel Arc. While there was no GPU support in past releases, the group is currently using software with subsequent source code, collectively known as Asahi Linux, to address this issue.
Our goal is not only to make Linux work on this machine, but also to polish it to the point where you can use the OS in practice every day. This requires a lot of work, as Apple Silicon is a completely undocumented platform. In particular, we will reverse engineer the Apple GPU architecture and driver with source code for ourselves.
— Asahi Linux
Linux 6.2 is expected to be the default Ubuntu 23.04 kernel and will be included in Fedora 38 up to Linux 6.3. in the end of April. [9to5]
