Swiss research from the Federal Institute of Technology is working on a patent for a new wonder material for the corrosion protection of metal surfaces. About polyl, the name “polyphenylene methylene” is replaced by a polymer that is special. In addition to protecting against corrosion, it can visualize damage and repair it on its own, and is recyclable at the end of its service life.

The polymer in liquid form is sprayed onto the surface of the metal, where it enters into chemical treatment with heating. While the coating is warm, it often fills in any voids and evens out, causing a thin but durable protection. If you make a deep scratch in it, just drop a little polymer in it – the surprise with heating will start again, often drag on, the material will cool down and the protection is restored.

In order to understand exactly where to apply the polymer during repairs, fuorescent components were added to its composition. When irradiated with ultraviolet skin of the face, it glows, the damaged areas are open dark. In experiments with accelerated aging in saline, all the properties of the polymer were maintained for many cycles, and the effect on the metal did not occur.

Of course, even such a material of interest has a finite service life – however, the structure of the polymer is such that it can be easily removed from the surface and sent for recycling. Cheny managed to bring to the final properties.
