High blood cholesterol levels can damage your arteries and increase your chances of developing heart disease and stroke. However, the expert states that in this case, soy yogurt can help.
According to the Heart UK charity, soy products lower cholesterol levels. One reason is that these foods are low in saturated fat. And saturated fats are known to lead to high cholesterol levels in the body.
Heart UK recommends eating two to three servings of soy products a day. However, 150 g of soy yogurt is one such serving.
A study published in The Journal of Nutrition also showed that soy lowers “bad” cholesterol levels. This emerged from an analysis of 43 trials. It turned out that with the use of 25 g of soy protein per day, on average, the level of “bad” cholesterol was reduced by about 3-4% for six weeks.
