This Tuesday (10), Intel officially HX series of 12th Gen Alder Lake processors. The announcement made during the Intel Vision event also revealed that the new CPUs have up to 16 hybrid cores and the highest frequency. up to 5 GHz on high-end models.
A total of seven models were presented from the Intel Core i5, i7 and i9 families. This time, Intel is targeting the high-performance segment for portable devices for professional applications and games. That’s why the company has increased the consumption of the entire line to 55W, making the HX models the most desktop-like processors available.
CPUs are designed to support DDR5 at 4800 MHz and DDR4 RAM modules at 3200 MHz. Another innovation is compatibility with PCIe 5th generation, which should begin to equip next-generation video cards, M.2 SSDs and Thunderbolt ports.
hybrid architecture
As with the desktop versions, the 12th Gen Intel Core for HX processors is a hybrid architecture. CPUs are built with two different types of cores: P-Core with Golden Cove architecture and E-Core with Gracemont architecture.
Together, these two cores work to better balance processor functions and delegate heavier and lighter tasks to each respective core. A complex task like a game is handled by performance cores (P-Cores), while background Discord is computed by efficiency cores (E-Cores).
Core i9 has 16 cores and 24 threads at 5Ghz
As the costume indicates, the flagship of HX processors comes in two versions: i9-12950HX and i9-12900HX. Both have 16 cores, 24 threads, 3.6 Ghz base clock, boost up to 5 Ghz and 30MB L3 cache. The big difference is that the first model listed has the vPRO seal and the cores are partially overclocked, while the second is completely unlocked.
The i7 family features: i7-12850HX and i7-12800HXIt has 16 cores, 24 threads, boosts up to 4.6Ghz, but has 5MB less cache than the i9. To complete the series, i7-12650HX It offers up to 14 cores with 20 threads, 24MB cache and clock speed up to 4.7Ghz.
Finally, i5-12600HX It is the most powerful in its segment with 12 cores and 16 threads at 4.6Ghz boost with partial overclocking. already i5-12450HX It has only 8 cores and 12 threads with a maximum frequency of 4.4Ghz.
The first HX processor laptops, such as the mighty ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 SE equipped with the RTX 3080 Ti, are expected to launch during Computex 2022.
