Microsoft account users have learned that certain currencies associated with an account may expire, according to a popular Reddit thread. The user who shared it will no longer be able to use the money in question as of July. Depending on how you got the money, your balance may eventually run out.

In principle, it’s pretty simple: All funds added via payments remain ‘fixed’ indefinitely, whether through a direct debit card or a gift card. Money earned through a promotion has an expiration date. For example, Microsoft distributes any Microsoft Rewards points that can be exchanged for a gift card. This balance expires in the long run.

You can easily check your balance by following the steps below:

  • go Microsoft.com and sign in with your preferred Microsoft/Xbox account
  • Click and click on your profile picture in the top right My Microsoft Account
  • Select Payment & Billing in the top toolbar and Payment options
  • At the top right, you can see your current Microsoft balance. If it has an expiration date, it will be just below that.
