Researchers say this is the first case of plastic-specific scarring reported in the wild. Also found among birds of different ages. Baby birds and chicks were accidentally fed plastic by parents who brought it along with the food.

The scientists found that the more plastic a bird eats, the more scars it has. The disease can lead to the gradual destruction of the tubular glands in the proventriculus, the first part of the bird’s stomach. Loss of these glands can make birds more vulnerable to infections and parasites, as well as affect their ability to digest food and absorb certain vitamins.

Probably not to say that this could be an environmental disaster.
