A growing body of research is showing that dreams are an important part of memory enhancement. Our brain doesn’t just create and store memories. These memories must be effectively integrated into the repositories and networks of memories that already exist. Second, our identity, our self-awareness, our mind, etc. is the basis. This is memory consolidation.

During sleep, memories no longer form continuously. Also, scientists believe that different memories are interconnected and made up of individual elements in unique and complex ways. And if you see something very often, then the brain creates a single memory about it (for example, about your partner’s appearance) and uses it constantly.

Memory items can represent anything people experience. These are sounds, images, colors, emotions, people, etc. In order to combine these elements in a way that is beneficial to us, consolidation of memory or dreaming is necessary. But in the process of processing these elements during sleep, they are also activated.

For example, if you are worried about something, then you will have many moments of worry. As a result, the brain associates it with other memories that contain an element of anxiety. That’s why you may have a strange dream.

So no matter how strange things you imagine, your brain is already familiar with them. Because they are memories.
