Scientists analyzed the medical records of more than 154,000 people diagnosed with COVID-19 between March 2020 and January 2021. The researchers then compared the frequency of gastrointestinal problems in these people during the year after infection with two control groups.
Researchers have found an increased risk for a number of previously identified gastrointestinal conditions and symptoms. Compared with controls, COVID-19 survivors were more likely to experience constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting and bloating within a year of infection.
