Until the end of March 2023, employees of the presidential administration were advised to get rid of the iPhone and use smartphones of other brands. The reason for this requirement was fear of possible hacking and espionage, Kommersant learned.
According to the publication’s sources, the presidential administration may buy new secure phones for its employees to make it easier for them to ditch Apple smartphones.
It is prescribed to replace Apple smartphones with devices on the Android operating system, their Chinese counterparts or the domestic Aurora operating system, another source added.
Another source said that the ban on the use of the iPhone in the future will also affect employees in charge of internal politics in the Russian regions.
Experts believe that such measures are pragmatic, but it is important to strike a balance between information security and employee productivity.
