The concept of “spring vitamin deficiency”, according to Chudakov, is now outdated, since you can buy any product all year round. However, he noted that modern technologies for processing and storing food reduce their nutritional value.
“Now, unfortunately, people are deficient in vitamins, microelements, unsaturated fatty acids almost all year round. But since we tend to tie our actions to certain dates, spring may be an opportunity to reflect on this issue,” he said.
Chudakov listed the main symptoms of vitamin deficiency: deterioration of the brain and muscles, increased fatigue, problems with the skin, nails and hair, indigestion, whitening and frequent colds. He emphasized that it is better to prevent beriberi beforehand.
To do this, Chudakov recommends consuming more greens, vegetables, unrefined cold-pressed oils and fruits. Black and red currants, sea buckthorn and cranberries are especially useful. She also recommends choosing foods fortified with phytonutrients.
