The deal will be completed in two phases: First, Blackberry will receive approximately $200 million in cash, and then annual payments for patent use over several years. In total, Blackberry will sell about 32,000 patents from its portfolio.

Blackberry will reserve the right to license patents sold primarily in relation to mobile devices, communications and wireless networks. The company also stated that the agreement will not affect the use of its products, solutions or services by customers.

Blackberry stopped producing smartphones in 2016 and switched to developing cybersecurity systems and other software products.
