The founder of the investment fund Baring Vostok Michael Calvey and his partner Philippe Delpal, convicted of embezzling 2.5 billion rubles, left Russia. This is reported by TASS and Interfax, citing sources.
“Calvi and Delpal left for their countries immediately after he lifted the preventive measure,” an informed source told the media.
- In 2019, Calvey and several of his partners became defendants in a Vostochny Bank embezzlement criminal case. None of the defendants pleaded guilty. Investigators later changed the charges from fraud to embezzlement.
- In August 2021, the Meshchansky District Court found Calvey guilty of embezzling 2.5 billion rubles from Vostochny Bank and sentenced him to five years and six months probation.
- During the entire period, the convicted person could not change his place of residence without prior notice to the supervisory authority.
- In January 2022, the court lifted the restrictions placed on the American investor to leave home.
