Stanislas Guerini, France’s Minister of Transformation and Public Administration, said in a statement that “entertainment” apps are not safe enough to be used in public administration and “could pose a risk to data protection”.
The ban will be monitored by the French Cyber Security Authority. The statement did not detail the full list of banned apps, but noted that the decision came after other governments took action against TikTok.
But there are exceptions: If an official wishes to use a prohibited application for professional purposes. Example: Guerini posted a ban notice on Twitter.
