Previously, developers had to disable ChatGPT due to a bug in an open source library that allowed some users to see threads from another active user’s chat history.
The bug has been fixed, but after a deeper study, experts discovered that it could also make some information about payments visible. The company says it affects 1.2% of ChatGPT Plus subscribers who are active in a given nine-hour window. Due to a bug, some users were able to see another active user’s first and last name, email address, billing address, last four digits of the debit card number and expiration date. OpenAI claims that the exact card numbers have not been disclosed.
The developers also say that the number of users whose data has been disclosed to someone else is extremely small. OpenAI has already communicated with such people.
