Thailand started “football” to fine tourists for infractions

Thai authorities shared the first results of the tourism crime control system. This is reported by The Phuket Express with reference to data from the Thai immigration service.

The system went live in an experimental format on March 1. In its framework, a foreign tourist receives a yellow card for the first offence. A person is not deported, but the next time the authorities will deny him entry to Thailand.

In case of receiving a second yellow card, the tourist will be immediately deported from the country. During two weeks of the system’s operation, travelers from Sweden and France were issued a red card, the immigration service clarified.

So far the system only works in Phuket. If it shows its effectiveness, it will spread to all popular tourist resorts: Pattaya, Chiang Mai and Koh Samui.

The most common crimes among tourists in Thailand are drunk driving, expired visas, illegal entry into the country, and most of the tourists who are under criminal proceedings are citizens of Russia, France, Great Britain, Myanmar.
