The reason for TikTok’s decline was the new video upload ban for Russian users introduced in March 2022. Since then, viewers of the app have been looking for alternative platforms to watch and create short videos.

Likee service, which did not have a significant market share before, came to the fore among TikTok’s competitors. Likee traffic doubled from spring 2022 to June 2023 and tripled in one year.

Russian short video services like Yappy and VK Clips were also growing.
