Lithuania’s Seimas has prohibited Russian citizens and companies created or managed by them from buying property in the country. This is reported by tv3.lt.
The decision during the vote in the Seimas was supported by 76 deputies, 13 against, 34 abstained.
The ban will not affect Russians who have a temporary or permanent residence permit in the republic, as well as those who have inherited property.
At the same time, the restriction for citizens of Russia and Belarus to obtain Lithuanian citizenship was excluded from the law.
The initiative to ban the purchase of real estate in Lithuania was initiated by the Seimas Committee for National Security and Defense. In 2022, Russian citizens bought 699 real estate in Lithuania. The committee considered that this created risks to national security.
