In emails, UMG says it fears infringing on the works’ own rights, as well as the rights of musicians collaborating with the copyright holder. The company discovered that based on music and songs hosted on its streaming services, chatbots can learn to write their own music from a textual description. The problem grows as the use of artificial intelligence chatbots becomes more and more common.
For example, developers have shut down the AI music creation service from public access, according to the text description MusicLM from Google. Partly because at least 1% of works created with it are copied directly from existing compositions.
