During Lent, the body’s enzyme systems, especially the pancreas and intestines, adapt to a diet low in protein and fat. Suddenly switching to a high-fat, high-protein diet can cause inflammation of the gallbladder or pancreas, among other problems.
The nutritionist recommends starting Lent with lean fish, seafood, chicken or turkey with a light grain or vegetable side dish. Food should be cooked in the “soft” mode with minimal heat treatment, and fried foods should be avoided.
At the same time, overeating during the Easter holidays can cause pain, the development of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract or exacerbation of existing conditions.
