One type of honey tastes good and can improve oral health. However, it is important to consume in moderation. This is manuka honey.
This honey contains more hydrogen peroxide than other varieties, which has an antibacterial effect. This honey also contains methylgloxal, or MGO. This substance also has antibacterial properties.
All of this is backed up by a 2014 study. Published in the Swiss Dental Journal. In this study, manuka honey had a stronger antibacterial effect against three bacterial strains that cause oral disease than other honeys.
For this effect, it will be enough to use one or two teaspoons of honey a day.
