RTBE Corporation issued a statement expressing his disagreeing with Twitter’s decision to tag them as “publicly funded media”. Spain’s public radio and television pointed out that the labels in the official reports were incorrect and contrary to their substance. “The corporation reaffirms editorial independence as one of its hallmarks,” he said.

Spanish Radio and Television explained how it is funded and asked Twitter to remove the tag or replace it to the one that says “publicly funded media”.

RTVE is a public media outlet funded by a general budgetary appropriation approved by Parliament, as well as two other private sources of funding. RTVE

RTVE is the latest casualty of Elon Musk’s anti-media crusade. in his new phase as CEO of Twitter. One of the most obvious cases is the case BBC, which Twitter called a government-funded publication a few days ago. After protests from the corporation, the tycoon gave in and changed the name to “government funded facility.”

Those who were unlucky were NPR and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), who received the same treatment as RTVE. United States Public Broadcasting Service Suspended his activity on Twitter after being called “government-affiliated media” and urged Elon Musk to reconsider the decision. With yet another designation, NPR has made clear its journalistic independence and accused the social network of using a misleading designation.

May be the most amazing case is the CBCwhom Elon Musk named after proposal by Pierre Poiliev, leader of the Conservative Party of Canada. The politician accused the CBC of getting 70% of the funding from the government, which Musk ignored. After the corporation protested, the tycoon mocked the broadcasting service by writing “69% government funded” on the label.

Why did Twitter flag RTVE?

Hashtags appeared some time ago on Twitter to identify official accounts, although they gained notoriety when they were applied to media controlled by China and Russia.
