The advent of robotics, artificial intelligence and automation could soon change everything, even something as human as sexuality. Journal of Sexual Research suggesting that sexual arousal may make people more likely to have sex with robot.

Despite the emergence of machines whose bodies and behaviors are designed to induce sexual arousal (such as sex robots and other electronic robots), and the potential impact of such machines on our sexual decision-making processes, researchers still need to explore whether sexual arousal can affect our readiness for erotic intercourse with such artificial partners,” Simon Dube and colleagues wrote in their study.

The researchers used a sample of 321 adult participants recruited over the Internet. All participants were required to be fluent in English and had previously viewed pornography. They also completed a 60-minute two-part online survey. In the first part of the survey, participants filled in demographics and willingness to interact closely with both humans and robots.

A week after that, participants were asked to complete the second part, where they watched a 10-minute video of humans having sex and performed measurements of sexual arousal and readiness for erotic interaction with humans and robots.

Dube and his colleagues found that people were more likely to report being ready to have sex with a robot while experiencing higher levels of sexual arousal.

“Sexual arousal may influence people’s readiness for erotic interaction with artificial (eg, robots) partners,” the researchers say. “Thus, it expands research into sexual arousal and decision making in the field of electronic robotics.”
