Sales of laptops and personal computers in monetary terms collapsed in the first quarter by 30%. Retailers explained the situation by increasing supplies from Russian and Chinese manufacturers, whose products are cheaper than their Western counterparts.
According to the results of the first quarter of 2023, sales of laptops in quantitative terms fell by 20% to 812 thousand units, and in monetary terms – by 33% to 45.5 billion rubles compared to the first quarter of 2022. Sales of personal computers during comparable periods in quantitative terms decreased by 6% to 278 thousand units, in monetary terms – by 31% to 12.1 billion rubles.
Demand for electronic devices from the low-price segment has grown in Russia, experts explained. “Cheap” computers in 2023 began to buy 84% more often. At the same time, in the medium and premium segments, demand fell by 33% and 77%, respectively.
According to M.Video-Eldorado, the share of Russian-made laptops almost doubled in the first quarter of this year due to the expansion of supply. Demand for Chinese laptops is experiencing the most active growth, according to Citilink.
