Its high-end machines produce chips that can also be used in advanced weapons and artificial intelligence devices, which unfortunately makes ASML an industrial spy target for China.
The success of ASML therefore came under fire due to escalating tensions between the US and China.
The US has focused on the strategic importance of semiconductors, and President Joe Biden is doing everything to keep China several generations behind in processor production. No company is more important to these efforts than ASML, which is actually seen as a critical infrastructure for US national security.
