The mobile operator MTS began to notify subscribers about the paid distribution of the Internet from their devices. Every time the “access point” is turned on, users will activate a special Internet package for 49 rubles.
The message says that the option is valid for those subscribers who have packages with unlimited Internet connected, and it is about the transmission of traffic via WiFi, USB and Bluetooth, Vedomosti learned.
According to the representative of the operator, the new conditions for the distribution of 50 GB will affect “a series of file rates with unlimited Internet and will allow a more profitable distribution of traffic.”
Ekaterina Tokareva, a member of the Pen & Paper Bar Association, described this change in the tariff conditions as “a hidden increase in tariffs, since the use of the Internet within the paid package can be done in any way.”
He added that if the operator sent a notification to the Federal Antimonopoly Service about plans to introduce paid distribution of the Internet and this does not exceed the inflation rate, then its actions are justified.
The FAS has not yet received the application. The service will further study the question of whether there is a violation of antitrust law in MTS shares.
