The National Center for Combating Sexual Abuse (NCOSE), formerly known as Media Ethics, accuses Reddit of not taking adequate action against sexual abuse.
In a letter signed by 320 “experts in combating sexual exploitation and harassment”, the group not only demanded better protection against inappropriate images, but also called for a complete ban on adult content on the site.
If Reddit agrees to the organization’s terms, it could lead to the mass removal of hundreds of subreddits, most of which are run by sex workers who post legal content.
Moderators of adult subreddits consider this requirement not surprising, but sad. The company has already tightened its rules on inappropriate images last year.
