Thus, the rate of those who refused to buy an electric car in the three months between January and March 2023 increased from 17.8% to 21%. At the same time, around 27% of respondents believe their next car will be electric “likely”.

Americans surveyed expressed disappointment with electric vehicles due to their high cost, lack of charging stations and slow charging speeds.

They are also concerned about the behavior of electric cars in extreme temperatures and the lack of specialized auto repair shops.

Interestingly, not only mature and older drivers are among the skeptics. 33% of Gen Z teens born after 1996 said they were less likely to purchase an electric car in the future.
