The MSI GF63 is one of the cheapest RTX 4050 gaming laptops on the market right now, but is it still worth the investment?
The laptop version purchased by YouTube host Jarrod’sTech has the following features. It’s an Intel i5-12450H processor, Nvidia RTX 4050 6GB graphics, 16GB RAM (2 x 8GB x8) DDR4-3200, 15.6″ display, Full HD, 144Hz, 512GB PCIe Gen 4 SSD, battery 51 Wh Included charger 120 watts of power.
Compared to other 15-inch gaming laptops, the MSI GF63 is quite light. The keyboard has a red backlight and its intensity is adjustable. The touchpad works fine, but it looks pretty small compared to MSI’s other modern laptops.
In terms of connectors, headphone, microphone, USB-A, USB-C, Ethernet, HDMI 1.4 (can work with 60Hz 8-bit display but not support G-Sync) etc. You have ports for MSI GF63 2023 also has DisplayPort over USB-C support.
The Wi-Fi speed of the MSI GF63 (2023) is pretty good compared to more expensive laptops. You can see more details in the chart below.
The laptop’s speakers sound a bit muffled. Overall the sound quality of the MSI GF63 (2023) is not very good, especially at high volume.
While the device is charging, the screen refresh rate automatically increases to 144 Hz and drops to 60 Hz when the power is disconnected.
Compared to the older MSI GF63 model, the new model lasted 10% longer in YouTube video playback and at least 38% longer in the gaming test.

The laptop has three performance modes: quiet, balanced, extreme. With DX12, the highest preset and 1080p resolution, in Shadow of the Tomb Raider there was little difference in performance between the various modes: between quiet and balanced – 7 fps, between balanced and extreme – 5 fps.
The MSI GF63’s screen has a 15.6-inch diagonal, 144 Hz refresh rate and 1080p resolution. Color gamut 53.9%, maximum brightness 253 nits. The response time is about 19.5 milliseconds, which is not impressive.

All in all, the MSI GF63 is way too expensive for the specs you get. For the same money you can buy, for example, a laptop with an RTX 3060 at a discount, and it will be better than MSI. In games, the RTX 3060 graphics card performs better than the RTX 4050.
