The FTC accused Meta* of violating the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Regulation (COPPA) by misrepresenting parental controls in the Messenger Kids app.

The proposed terms include a complete ban on monetizing data from users under the age of 18. Data collected from these users can only be used for security purposes, and data collected before users are under the age of 18 cannot be used. MetaIt took 30 days for response. Facebook Representative (Owned by Meta) Andy Stone described the FTC’s move as a “political gimmick” and said the company will “vigorously fight this lawsuit and look forward to winning”.
