Latest trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder showed that the superhero, played by Chris Hemsworth, still remembers his brother Loki. And not only as the source of most of his problems throughout his big screen adventure. trailer revealed huge back tattoo, which appears to be a tribute to his late and troubled relative. Another one that showcases the unmistakable, strange, and touching bond that both characters shared—do they share—in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

A new look at the upcoming film directed by Taika Waititi revealed a number of details of interest to Marvel fans. In addition to officially introducing the villain Gorr, the butcher of the gods played by Christian Bale, he also showcased Russell Crowe’s Zeus. As if all of the above wasn’t enough the trailer included some more Mighty Thor/Jane Foster scenes played by Natalie Portman. But among the flurry of news, it was the one that could have gone unnoticed that attracted the most attention.

it’s about the tattoo the god of thunder seems to have been created in honor of his brother Loki.. As you may remember, the character played by Tom Hiddleston was killed by Thanos during the events of 2018’s Infinity War. And despite everything that happened in Disney + Loki, it’s clear that Thor still has no idea what happened. In other words: from the existence of a multiverse to the possibility of a variant of his brother. For earth timeline 616, loki is dead and it is for this reason that the image of the tribute to Thor moves.

An emotional farewell to the most beloved Marvel brothers

The scene takes place near the end of the two-minute trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder. In this episode, Thor can be seen face to face with Zeus as the latter attempts to remove what appears to be a suit from him. But the attempt goes too far, and the god of Asgard finds himself naked in front of the crowd that surrounds him.

It is then that a large tattoo can be seen that covers most of Thor’s back. This is an image of the recognizable horned crown of Loki. More specifically, the one he wore during the final battle of Asgard in Thor: Ragnarok. The word RIP (Rest in Peace) can also be read between the shoulder blades and below, what looks like a scroll can be discerned.

And while the trailer doesn’t make it clear (hopefully it does in the movie), when and where the tattoo was done, it’s most likely a tribute to Loki. For context, despite his previous behavior, the god of mischief ended up with a flawless atonement arc. And in fact, his death was the result of his desperate attempt to stop Thanos from torturing Thor. Which would explain the character’s posthumous homage to his very complex and almost always ambiguous brother.

The tattoo reproduces the crown of long, pointed horns that Loki wore in battle. A completely different version of the smaller version and the broken horn used by all variants of the anti-hero in the series that bears his name. There is reason to suspect that this is the memory of a character killed off in one of the darkest moments of the Marvel saga on the big screen.

Will Loki – any of his variants – be in Thor: Love and Thunder?

Loki

Of course, it surfaced again after the trailer. So far, there is no sign that the character will return. Indeed, Tom Hiddleston has spent a great deal of time and energy vehemently denying this. However, a significant part of the fans are convinced that the tattoo may indicate a reunion.

Will events affect Thor: Love and Thunderr next season Loki who starts filming in the summer? Or, in any case, will Thor have news of the multiverse thanks to the return of his brother? As fans often recall, Loki made a promise to Thor. “Will the sun shine on us again?” Will this opportunity be realized in Taika Waititi’s film? We will have to wait until June to find out the answer.
