The governor of Bali, Wayan Coster, complained about the numerous violations of tourists, including those from Russia, according to the detikNews portal. In this sense, he proposed to introduce a quota system.
“We will no longer pursue a mass tourism policy, we will limit it by introducing a quota system,” Koster said.
The governor said that many offenses committed by tourists are associated with visitors from Russia. Since the beginning of the year, 101 people have been deported from Indonesia. Of these, 27 were Russians. In total, according to him, there are now about 50 thousand citizens of the Russian Federation in Bali.
This is not Koster’s first statement calling for action regarding dissatisfaction with the behavior of the Russians. In March, he proposed to tighten the visa regime with the Russian Federation.
Koster is now negotiating with the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association to introduce tourist quotas. Those wishing to visit the island are supposed to have to queue in advance to enter the province. If the changes are accepted, travelers will be able to plan a visit not for the current year, but only for the next one.
Former Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri expressed her solidarity with the governor of Bali. She said that she shared the idea of the restrictions for tourists with the head of state, Joko Widodo.
