The Gorky Automobile Plant continues to file lawsuits against the Volkswagen automobile concern: the Arbitration Court of the Nizhny Novgorod region received a new application to the Russian legal entity of the Volkswagen Group Rus LLC brand in the amount of 15.6 billion rubles.

GAZ filed the third lawsuit against Volkswagen since the beginning of the year, for 15.6 billion rubles

This is GAZ’s third claim against the German automaker for 2023, recalls Interfax, which was the first to notice the appearance of a corresponding entry about a new claim in the regional court file.

Since the filing of the first lawsuit, in March for the same amount, the total assessment of claims has already amounted to 59.6 billion rubles. In April, GAZ requested 28.4 billion rubles from Volkswagen.

The company asks to recover damages related to the termination of the car assembly contract at its production site in Nizhny Novgorod, as well as pay compensation for lost profits.

GAZ Group and Volkswagen Group Rus entered into such an agreement in 2011 valid until the end of 2025, but due to the fact that the brand left the Russian market in March 2022, joint work was suspended, which led to litigation.

After the March request, the court temporarily arrested Volkswagen’s assets in the Russian Federation, but later reversed the decision. In April, the court completely rejected the claimant.

The litigation continues: on the March claim, a new hearing has been scheduled for May 18, on April 7. Details of the new case are not yet known.
