Yingtao Yu, a former head of engineering, claims he was unfairly fired after raising concerns about ByteDance’s practices, including content theft from other apps. The lawsuit also alleges ByteDance acted as a “useful propaganda tool” for the Chinese Communist Party and that Chinese employees had access to user data from the United States.
The lawsuit claims that ByteDance engineers stole content from platforms like Instagram* and Snapchat and transferred it to TikTok. It also claims that the company is using bot accounts to increase engagement rates as TikTok tries to gain a foothold in the US market.
In response to the lawsuit, a ByteDance spokesperson said the company plans to vigorously dispute the claims they believe are unfounded.
