The European Union approved the agreement between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard. The regulator considered that the takeover bid would not have a significant impact on competition in the console market. Earlier, the UK blocked the deal: the regulator said the merger would strengthen Microsoft’s already advantageous position.
The fact that the EU antitrust regulator has approved the acquisition of video game developer Activision Blizzard by Microsoft Corporation, writes The Verge.
The European Commission considered that the agreement would not have a significant impact on the console market and suggested that Microsoft would continue to release Activision Blizzard games on the PlayStation and not make them exclusive to its Xbox.
The British antitrust regulator had previously blocked a deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard. The Office of Competition and Markets said the acquisition will strengthen Microsoft’s already advantageous position and give it control over the manufacturer’s main products: World of Warcraft, Call of Duty and Overwatch.
The deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard is valued at $68.7 billion, making it the largest deal in video game market history.
