The former Toyota plant in Saint Petersburg will produce urban electric microcars. The Almaz-Antey concern will be engaged in production, the first car is planned to roll off the assembly line in 2024.
Concern “Almaz-Antey” announced the production of electric microcars at the former Toyota plant in St. Petersburg. This was stated by the head of the Obukhov plant (part of Almaz-Antey), which the St. Petersburg company has managed since May 2023. The microcar received the name Type L, its presentation is scheduled for May 25-26. .
Serial production of cars will begin in 2024, in the first stage the company plans to produce 10-14 thousand microcars per year. The L-type will be used commercially, with a top speed limited to 90 km/h and a range of 183 km on a single battery charge.
At the end of March 2023, the Toyota plant in St. Petersburg became the property of FSUE NAMI, subordinate to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Japanese automaker Toyota estimated its financial losses from leaving the Russian market at $655 million.
