After the resumption of air traffic with Russia, Georgia’s tourism sector may receive $300-$400 million a year, Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili said.

Georgia will receive up to 400 million dollars a year for the resumption of flights with Russia

Earlier, on May 10, Vladimir Putin signed decrees on the abolition of the visa regime for Georgian citizens from May 15 and the lifting of the ban on direct flights to this country. The flight restriction has been in force since 2019.

Following this news, the demand for flights from Russia to Georgia and the booking of hotels there increased sevenfold.

“In the tourism sector, we expect an effect of around $300 to $400 million within a year after flights are restored,” Davitashvili was quoted as saying by TASS.

On Monday, Russian airlines applied to the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency for permission to operate flights. Only those Russian airlines that have not been affected by international sanctions will be able to resume flights, the Georgian regulator noted.
