The Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service was requested to verify the legality of the provision of microcredit services by mobile operators. Russians fear that if their phone is lost or stolen without their consent, strangers may get loans. This is stated in an application to the service of the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Education Committee Yana Lantratova. Izvestia got acquainted with the document.

FAS was asked to verify the services of mobile operators for loans

The resource cites the Megafon company as an example, which in March 2023 added a clause to the user contract on the consent of subscribers to receive information on the granting of microcredits.

Users were not notified of the changes. To refuse this service, you need to read the text of the agreement in its entirety and find the line with the refusal of this service.

This service is also provided by Mobile TeleSystems PJSC and VimpelCom PJSC, to which subscribers also submitted claims. There are no guarantees that mobile operators will keep personal data, Lantratova noted.

Concern on this issue is shared by the State Duma Committee for Economic Policy, where they proposed to prohibit mobile operators from carrying out activities that are not their own.

  • Earlier, Russian mobile operators warned customers about rising communications prices in 2023. They cited rising equipment costs as the reason. Companies must notify the FAS 14 days in advance of price changes.
