Russian scientists have determined which artificial intelligence algorithms are most popular in medicine. It turns out that most of the time, doctors prefer to use simpler machine learning algorithms. The results of the study were published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.
Experts from IKBFU to find the most used AI in medicine. The National Center for Medicine and Surgery, named after I. Kant, NI Pirogov, and the Central Research Institute for Organization and Information of Health Services proposed an approach that allows you to restore the structures of various datasets by creating co-occurring networks. The scientists visualized a network showing how often medical concepts and AI-related terms overlap.
It turns out that all terms are divided into five thematic clusters. The largest of these, “machine learning,” often overlapped with imaging and retrospective research clusters. These relationships suggest that such algorithms are widely used both to analyze medical images and to predict diseases such as tumor growth.
Researchers have shown that neural networks are mainly used in image processing in medicine. Deep learning-based methods are popular in cardiovascular disease research. And simpler and more easily explained machine learning algorithms are mostly used for EEG and EKG as well as predicting the development of diseases.
