The developers of the game Axie Infinity have released a light version of the project on the App Store. Previously, Apple had categorically refused to publish blockchain-related games on its app store.
Sky Mavis Studio, behind one of the biggest blockchain games, Axie Infinity, has announced the launch of their project on the App Store. Initially, the game will be available only in key markets: Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Venezuela, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam.
At the beginning of the year, Axie Infinity appeared on Google Play, but for the App Store, the developers had to develop a separate version of the app with reduced NFT functionality. In particular, several free characters are available to iPhone owners, and purchasing non-expendable tokens is just one way to enhance the gaming experience. In the desktop version of Axie Infinity, NFTs are required to start the game.
“We’ve been talking to Apple for about two years now,” Alexander Leonard Larsen, co-founder and COO of Axie Infinity, told Decrypt in an interview. “After a series of trials and errors, we were able to develop a light version of the game that satisfied the moderators on the App Store.”
Amid news of the game’s release on iOS devices, the game’s native token, AXS, surged more than 12% from $7.16 to $8.04, becoming one of the most successful cryptocurrencies of the week.
