The director of the Institute for Atmospheric Physics said the source of the sounds recorded in Earth’s stratosphere could be an acoustic wave channel. AM Obukhov RAS Sergey Kulichkov.

Earlier, at an altitude of 20 kilometers, American scientists recorded a strange sound – a low, repetitive noise.

Near the troposphere boundary in the lower part of the stratosphere, the minimum speed of sound is observed. The expert said it is held in a certain wind direction, so a waveguide is created for any subsonic source at these heights. In it, sound can propagate hundreds of kilometers from the source without being absorbed much.

The expert noted that this explains why researchers have not yet found the source of the sound. At the same time, you need to be familiar with all the research data to judge their origin. The scientist emphasized that there is nothing mystical in them.
