From an evolutionary perspective, bedtime may seem pointless. After all, animals can die even after a meal, and then the evolutionary chain of this species is interrupted. The state of sleep appears to occur when a living being has at least some organized nervous system, even if it consists of only a few nodes. It is necessary to periodically disconnect this nervous system, at least from the outside world, in order to redistribute information. This has been proven in both mammals and flies.

Studies on flies have shown that a fly receives more information if it is exposed to a color stimulus during the daytime. When neurons and the connections between them are examined, it is seen that the number of connections increases during wakefulness and decreases during sleep. Thus, sleep performs the important function of redistributing information, preparing the nervous system for new experiences the next day.
