Windows XP was released in 2001 and quickly gained popularity. In April 2009, Microsoft ended mainstream support of the system, including x64, and in 2014 extended support effectively abandoned this operating system in favor of new ones. No updates and security patches have been released for the system since then, making going online a potentially dangerous activity.
Despite this, some users continue to use XP and this still requires activation. A group of enthusiastic developers hacked XP’s key validation algorithm and rebooted it for offline activation. Upon activation, license keys are generated and the whole process is secure.
It will also not be possible to activate the system on the Web, as Microsoft has disabled the respective servers.
