Sergey Urzhumtsev, the chief designer of the Kalashnikov concern, presented the AK-12 of the 2023 model. According to the mandate of the Ministry of Defense, a number of significant changes were made to the design of the machine.

Thus, the diopter sight has been improved – it has become more all-weather. The fuse control system has been made bidirectional. The new AK-12 received a structurally new, more advanced handguard. The muzzle device is no longer removable, which allows you to conveniently install low-noise shooting devices. In addition, the two-stroke cutting mode was removed from the machine, as it did not lead to a significant increase in productivity, but complicates the design. “Kalashnikov”, according to Urzhumtsev, constantly receives a machine gun response from the zone of special military operations.

The developer said that the modified machine gun tests could be completed by mid-June. In the near future, 100 AK-12s will be delivered to the Ministry of National Defense for military operations. Urzhumtsev emphasized that the first serial batch of assault rifles will be produced “in volumes according to state order” in the second half of 2023.
