Tip 01 Own camera, uncompressed
When you press the camera icon in the text box in a WhatsApp conversation, you can take a photo or quickly select one of your recent photos. The photo you take or choose later is then heavily compressed: the quality of the image is reduced to save data.
However, would you rather use your own camera app or have WhatsApp compress your photos? You can do this on WhatsApp. Press the paper clip, not the camera icon, in the same text box. Then briefly press the camera button that appears in the new window and then choose to take a photo or video. Now you can not only take photos and videos with your favorite camera app, but also send them in the best quality; this is great if you want to view or print on your computer.
Tip 02 Own gallery, uncompressed
The above tip is useful when you take new photos and videos and send them via WhatsApp. But usually you want to send existing photos via chat service. When you press the insert button (paper clip) and GalleryYou get a built-in gallery and the photo or video you choose is also sent compressed.
However, the same method we applied to the camera works for the gallery as well. Press the paper clip, hold the Gallery button and you will be presented with the option to choose your own favorite gallery app. For example, Google Photos. Select a photo or video and you will notice that it is also sent in the best quality.
Tip 03 Save WhatsApp photos to cloud
Speaking of Google Photos. This app is ideal to use as a backup for your photos. You will not only save space on your smartphone by seeing all the photos you have saved through the application and moving your photos to the cloud. You can also view your photos on any device with a browser by going to http://photos.google.com.
It will be useful to store your WhatsApp photos in it as well. Here you can basically back up all your photos (and videos) you receive on WhatsApp. You do this by opening the Google Photos App at the bottom of the screen. Albums and then under Photos on device WhatsApp Pictures push. Open the slider in: Backup and Sync and you will save all your WhatsApp photos. You make videos the same way, but then you are looking at WhatsApp Videos.
However, you probably don’t want to move everything you receive on WhatsApp to the cloud. This is not necessary. Instead of turning the slider on WhatsApp Images in the Google Photos app, you can manually select the photos, press the three dots in the top left, and back up now choose.
Tip 04 Copy to PC
Prefer to stay away from the cloud but still want your WhatsApp photos on your computer? Then connect the cable between your smartphone and PC. Go to your Android’s notification screen and choose file transfer instead of charging. You can now see your smartphone in the PC explorer on This PC. Open this and go to the folder What’s up?file media and finally WhatsApp Pictures† Here you will find all the images you received via WhatsApp that you can copy to your PC (or cut when you run out of space on your smartphone). in the folder WhatsApp Videos You will also find the videos you have received.

It is also possible to save a backup directly to your phone, provided you have an Android smartphone with a micro SD card. This is especially useful if you want to transfer your WhatsApp data to a new phone. You can do this Settings † Call settings † Support† If you insert the micro SD card into a new one and install WhatsApp, your backup will be automatically restored during installation.
You can also back up via Google Drive. This is completely automatic. Go to WhatsApp settings on your phone, chats and then chat backup† Here you can manually start a backup by pressing the green button.
But you can also choose to automatically back up every day if you’re connected via WiFi. If you do this at night, you don’t have to worry and it won’t bother you.
