Since iOS 15 you can significantly improve the audio quality of FaceTime, but Apple has hidden this functionality well. Where do you find the option and how do you spot it? You can improve your FaceTime audio by following these steps.

the function is called sound insulation It was announced at the launch of iOS 15, but fell short for a long time. More and more users are discovering this feature in the last few weeks alone.

Sound Isolation filters out background noise using machine learning, making it easier to hear the person on the other end of the line. Useful if you want to call during a concert or if you’re standing next to a busy road. Strangely, the function isn’t turned on by default, so you’ll need to enable it before you notice anything of the improved audio quality.

this is how it works

When making a one-on-one or group video call only, you can turn on Sound Isolation by swiping down from the top right corner of your phone or tablet. On iPhones with a home button, swipe up from the bottom. The option in the Control Panel that appears in the upper right Mode Standard† Tap this and you will find it here sound insulation† The phone will remember the selection: Every time you initiate a new FaceTime call, Sound Isolation is turned on by default. By the way, the function also works with other applications that allow you to make video calls, including WhatsApp, Signal and even Zoom. TikTok does not support the feature yet. You also can’t turn on Sound Isolation for voice calls.

You will also find the option in the same menu. broad spectrum† This is the opposite of Sound Isolation, where background noise is pushed to the fore. For example, this can be useful if you want your conversation partner to enjoy the music you have in the background, but in practice you would probably prefer Sound Isolation to Broad spectrum.

Under Standard Mode you will find the Sound Isolation option.

Not on every iPhone

The function to improve the sound quality of video calls should in principle work on all phones running the latest version of iOS, but in practice this is not always the case. For example, we searched for Sound Isolation on an iPhone 8, but the function was nowhere to be found in the Control Panel. We found the option on the iPhone 11.
