Microsoft Teams can demand a lot from your processor. We regularly come across stories of users complaining about their computers being slow while Teams is running. Fortunately, there are options to prevent this from happening in the future. That’s how you handle it.

The way Microsoft Teams sometimes demands a lot from your computer is because of the way the program is configured. Teams is built on the Electron platform, a free and open source software framework designed by GitHub. Among other things, it allows the development of desktop GUI applications using web technologies.

The platform also loads several libraries directly in the background, which means it demands a lot from the processor. Also, corrupt application files or compatibility issues can throw a wrench at things.

Before we dive deep into the topic, we’d better check if there is an update available. Check for an update for Windows or Microsoft Teams and install it if necessary. Then see if the problems persist. Is this the case? Then we look further.

Microsoft Teams demands a lot from the processor

The first part we look at is GPU hardware acceleration. In fact, it can help to enable this option when it is inactive so that the program consumes less resources. Open Microsoft Teams and press the three lines at the top. go General and put a check next to you Disable GPU hardware acceleration† Now restart Teams.

Now go back to the same window and uncheck Register Teams as Office’s chat app far away if it was there. Microsoft Teams is thus less handled by the system, which immediately reduces the pressure on the processor. Even now, you have to close and restart Teams to notice the difference.

Another part of Microsoft Teams that consumes a lot of processing power is Read receipts† You will find this below Settings > Privacyand then somewhere in the middle of the window. Move the slider to the left so that the button gets the background color. Teams no longer has to constantly check if someone has read your messages, so it consumes less processing power. Now restart the program once.

clear cache

Clearing the cache can also help. Ironically, this cache helps the program do its job faster. But here the opposite is true when the data is corrupted.

You clear the cache by going to the app installation files. Open carry out Enter by pressing Windows key + R, thenr %appdata% and bass OK† go Microsoft and then suits and delete everything in the folders blob_storage, Cache, GPUcache and databases† I hope the problem is solved now.

No? Then try uninstalling and reinstalling Teams.
